Our Story

For Elvis, New York City is home. He didn’t know it then, but God had been orchestrating his journey to Missouri ever since he convinced a young couple from a small town in Missouri to go to New York and plant a church. Ron and Susan Taylor are missionaries from Poplar Bluff, and they planted the first Connect NYC church right across the street from Elvis’s house. God used that church in his story of being saved. There, he learned the truth about Jesus Christ and his calling to ministry. After following the Taylors to their next church plant and training under Ron for a few years, God put it on his heart to come to Springfield and further his training at Baptist Bible College. He ended up in a High Street Internship, and after three internships, God allowed him to work with High Street Youth, where he would meet me (Emily).

I had also completed two internships through High Street and was asked to be on the Youth Resident team. After a while, we started dating and talking about our future in ministry. We sought God out and asked for guidance as a team; Elvis was sure New York was where he was going, but it wasn’t as clear for me. Then at the High Street 2020 missions conference, God very clearly called me to missions and New York. We have been preparing for New York ever since.

For us when we look at our story of how we met and all the things that had to take place for just that to happen it is very evident that God was at work here. We are two people from very different backgrounds that have come together and are ready to do God's work and reach lost people in New York City.
